Ruben Tönnis is a contemporary painter whose practice moves between portraiture, figurative painting, and floral compositions. Working primarily with oil, acrylic, and mixed media on canvas, he creates works that balance immediacy with sensitivity, combining expressive gesture with a strong awareness of color, surface, and emotional presence. His oeuvre moves fluidly across different bodies of work, including Ai Humans, Ai Woman, Portraits, Flowers, Journal, Emotional Explosion, and Taiwan, revealing an artistic language that is both intimate and open to experimentation.

What defines Tönnis’ work is its ability to shift between observation and interpretation. His paintings often feel personal without becoming closed off, allowing the viewer to encounter vulnerability, atmosphere, and human presence in a direct and contemporary way. Whether he focuses on the human figure or on floral motifs, his works retain a sense of immediacy and emotional charge, shaped through layered materials and a confident painterly approach. The range of formats and techniques visible throughout his practice also suggests an artist who is interested not only in motif, but in the possibilities of painting itself.

In recent years, his work has developed across multiple series and formats, from smaller, intimate canvases to larger-scale paintings. This breadth gives his practice a dynamic quality: each series opens a new perspective, while still remaining connected through a distinct visual sensitivity and a consistent interest in mood, expression, and contemporary image-making.
